Forklift Battery Safety
The power to run electric forklifts is supplied by huge industrial batteries that have to be charged frequently and maintained correctly. Safety procedures must be followed when somebody connects the battery to the charger. It is very essential to inspect battery fluid levels.
Personal Protective Equipment - PPE
It is essential for employees working with a forklift battery to wear eye protection. Other PPG consist of safety glasses, goggles, or a full face shield. The best way to protect both clothing and skin from other residue or leaked acid is to put on thick rubber gloves on the hands and an approved apron on the body.
Emergency Eyewash Station
An emergency eyewash post should be situated close to the charging place. The route to the post must not be obstructed and a worker who is injured should be able to go to the eyewash station from the charging area within 10 seconds while walking.
Charger Safety
The charger should be the same amperage as the battery. It must be turned off when the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
While near a battery and charging area, open fire are prohibited. Do not allow items such as lighters or matches to be used when somebody is checking the fluid levels in the battery.
Ventilation
The battery charging place also needs to be well ventilated. The recharging method could release gas. These fumes are both explosive and poisonous.
