Counterbalance forklift Training
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA require that anybody using a counterbalanced lift truck be given classroom or lecture style training. They also require that a supervised driving program is finished along with periodic refresher training. There is no minimum time requirement for the supervised driving or classroom training. In addition, there is no frequency mandated for the refresher training either.
Counterbalanced Forklifts
The counterbalanced lift truck's weight is used to balance its load utilizing its own weight. The forklift forks are in a fixed position but could be raised and lowered to secure and transport cargo. The forks run parallel to the forklift's body. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration require that drivers who will be utilizing counterbalanced forklifts on the job be trained on the trucks while being in the kind of setting which they would be utilizing them.
Classroom Training
Classroom training or lecture style training provides information about the truck which the operator will be utilizing. This training covers aspects like load and weight capacity, height, how to fuel or charge the lift truck. It includes how to gauge the time on the engine along with any lift truck specific safety information like where to stand when walking around the truck. Either written and/or oral testing is part of the classroom training. There is no required minimum time for the training.
Supervised Driving
The lift truck operator has to learn how to operate the counterbalanced lift truck while being supervised. The supervised driving has to take place in a place that reflects the environment the driver would be driving in. This atmosphere should include the type of terrain she would be traveling on, have similar vehicle and pedestrian traffic nearby, and the same surrounding structures close by as well. There is no specific minimum number of hours the driver needs to drive while being supervised.
